Fox

We start Season 2 with Fox, champion of the season and one of the most acclaimed winners of Masked Singer. He's also a steampunk fox! But I don't love foxes as much as many, many furries on the web do and I got over my steampunk phase, so let's see how he fares under my judgement.

Now, Fox is definitely steampunk-ier than many things that pass off as "steampunk" nowadays. He dresses exactly like you'd imagine someone from the speculated Victorian era with steam technology: top hat, corset, high boots, those fancy adventurer pants I don't know the proper name of and DuckDuckGo won't give me the name of and a cape, for extra flair.
There's appropiate ornaments in these clothes too - they didn't do the typical "slap some copper gears on and call it a day". It feels heavily ornamented as steampunk should be, but in a cohesive and functional way. Even the nose ring feels steampunk, even if I find that a bit overkill. But keep in mind that's the only nitpick I can find in a concept that can easily go overkill.

Now, Fox is not just "a steampunk fox". He's a steampunk cyborg fox! You can see intrincate machinery taking over part of his face, the inner part of one of his ears, and arguably one of his entire arms. I like his whiskers and I especially appreciate the fact that, while both his eyes appear "hollow", only the mechanized one appears to have a pupil. Is this his only functional eye?

Overall, Fox's design follows the core ideas of steampunk adequately, and makes it extra interesting by being a cyborg. I might not be into foxes and steampunk (anymore), but I do still like me a good cyborg from time to time. What about his voice?

Well, turns out Fox's got a really nice voice! Not too high, not too dep, but warm and full of nuances. Sometimes I feel like I'm describing wine instead of a voice. I do have this feeling that his voice "drowns out" the genre he's singing, like it makes them all feel too alike. Like when you put tomato or Nutella all over everything and in the end it all tastes like either tomato or Nutella. See, we need more words to describe voices because otherwise I need to make food comparisons as if I were Fawful.

Body language-wise, you know Fox feels comfortable in a stage, but doesn't seem to do much with that stage presence until a bit later in his performances, where he breaks out in fun dancey bits.

The performances themselves still feel kind of standard, even if they sometimes try out fun things, like carrying out the steampunk theme on the first one or the snowglobe dancer on the Christmas special.

I feel like I would personally like Fox more if I was still in my steampunk phase, but I can see why Fox's got his fans... and not necessarily because he's a fox.
